    Wilfried Schmidt introduced a prototype of a gearless hub dynamo in 1992, the origin and benchmark for modern dynamos. Serial production began 1995 in Ulm. Reliable, low-maintenance and long-lasting products destined to make cycling safer and more comfortable.

    In 1998, we moved to our own premises in a newly constructed building in the French-Quarter of Tübingen. In this ecologically compatible quarter with mixed-use property Schmidt developes SON hub dynamos and LED headlights and from here they are distributed. Furthermore, most of the parts are produced and assembled here under socially and environmentally manageable conditions. This is also true for purchased parts: most of them preferably from nearby.

    In 2011, the number of staff rose to 25. The employees mostly walk or cycle to their workplace.
